Astrology in Today's World

After 15+ years of studying Astrology (loosely I add - and somewhat reclusively), I do not have a very good "pulse" on how the general population (U.S. or elsewhere) views/values this science in today's world.

To me, at times anyway - it seems people "outwardly" can appear more focused on all the splendid material comforts/technology & diversity of "things" & "things to do."

Can any visitor help me with their opinion of how receptive is the world to the more "inward" views/values of Astrology? Wouldn't the Psychology of Astrology be useful for everyone if it were more readily understood by all/more mainstream?

Welcome everyone's opinions/observations!!

Thanks!

Hi, Aquamarine (love your name, btw..it's my birthstone Triple Aries here)

I'm brand new to the forum, and relatively new to the 'science' of Astrology. I'm learning more about it in terms of how it effects the issues of my life, the interaction of my archetypes, etc. I don't want to speak for everyone, so I'll just speak for myself.

Up until recently, I didn't think of Astrology in terms of "Science" so much as "Entertainment". While I understood my chart was based upon the time and location of my birth, I never thought it could be'personal enough for me to really be of any insightful help. Fun, yes...an occasional "Oh, that is SO me", you bet! But I've never made decisions on my horoscope, etc. I think a lot of my perception was based on the presentation of the material. However, at mid life, I am opening myself up to exploring Truth where ever I can find it. I'm sure I'm not alone in looking for a deeper sense of who I am, what my challenges are, and what my Sacred Contract for this life is about. And I found that this website is such a blessing! It makes Astrology something 'reasonfilled' that I can wrap my mind around. It has been very helpful for me to cast my natal chart, and compare that with my chart of origin (I'm a member of Myss.com as well). This site has been very helpful to me, and I've referred several people to it!

Thank you very much for listening.

Aquamarine,
I hate that we have to be so cautious when it comes to sharing what we know, and love with others. It's strange how the universe works. Hundreds of years ago, before we had all the scientific answers to life, we placed much emphasis in the stars, and our limited resources to astronomy. I read somewhere that texts were written, and found long before we were to have developed our own alphabet. People channeled information to gain knowledge...or the other way around! Does this make any sense? No. But we knew it to be truth. Our truth. And honestly, do you think we could really explain how human psychology fits into it? Understanding people, and our patterns of behavior is all it's about, and we all have some concept of this. It is the way it relates to the stars that produces the blank stares. I also think the more we try to pacify this need we have to 'have proof' only inhibits us of what is and what will soon prove to be such a necessity in our lives. We need to learn to stop rejecting all of the things that are meant to give us knowledge. Also, for arguments sake, what can we say that we really KNOW about anything anyway? I also think that it is sort of interesting to note that most of the 'rejectors' are men. Not all... of course...but they like to think that this is the sort of nonsense that is for 'chicks.' But one thing all men know...and I mean all...is that the term 'womens intuition' wasn't self appointed. Or maybe it was, but either way, understand it or not...it is. Maybe rejection stems from the need to deny this gift so that they can dismiss us as merely paranoid, or psychotic. I say let them have it. It is the least we can do...I mean we have been given an unspeakable gift.
But, back to the issue. I think that it is our instinctual behavior to deny the things that are unfamiliar to us. By now we have filled up the psychology books, and medical refferences on why exactly we have these tendencies, and I think we could blindly point to a page, and find some sort of psychosis that relates directly to us. I heard somewhere that the 80's is the 'generation of psychology.' And I believe psychology in many case shelters us from seeking inside to find our own truths. We would rather hide behind the theories of men, then get to know who we are. I also find it hard to accept that religion is so blindly accepted, even religions that don't pertain to us, and astrology is so widely scoffed at. I guess it doesn't answer the question though 'to tell, or not to tell.' Truthfully, I don't think it is our lesson to give, I feel this way about any spiritual practice. The beauty is that we have all found astrology, and whatever other spiritual resources we have, on our own. I believe that when it is time-something opens up in ourselves that sees what we are ready to see. I mean the reality of it is we are mere human beings. The idea that we could have all the answers to lifes mysteries just because we ask is ridiculous, and really sort of typical for 'small minds.' And we continue to show what we do when we are given concepts that we don't understand, or like. We walk around destroying eachother, as if that is 'the point.' I would like to think that maybe we are a chosen few for now, and in time we won't have to convince others that we are not soaring in another planet! Literally! Sharing the things with others that are so close to our souls should be considered a priviledge. I spend my time only with people who can see this. It sure is fulfilling though when you can see the light in someones face after sharing what we believe with them...huh?! I do live for those moments. Oh well, I believe we will have more than we know what to do with very soon, so until then I try to just enjoy. When i'm not rambling on about it that is...!

Thank you Lady Hawk for sharing that "Triple Aries" air of excitement and sense of discovery in your reply to me... that helps much. I feel more motivated to do something with all these years of Astrological Studies... in your words, "exploring Truth where ever I can find it" - thank you

I understand when you say, "I found that this website is such a blessing!" -- I have as well Lady Hawk... in so many ways...

And thank you Elisanne for giving me much to meditate on with your thoughts about Astrology. You have much insight. I don't think you were "rambling on" (your words)... but what do I know... I'm a guy! (HaHa... just teasing you)

I especially appreciate you saying, "I believe that when it is time-something opens up in ourselves that sees what we are ready to see." As a Cancer North Node, you reminded me to "remember the process" (as it unfolds) instead of trying to sometimes 'force' it. -- Thank you!

By you both sharing slices of how you feel about Astrology, you reminded me of the following quote:

"We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other. If you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you." -- Jeff Warner

Any one else care to share their observations/how open people are to Astrology in todays world?
