On The Path Poem . . . . . DO YOUR OWN THING

During the last week of March and the first three weeks of April, the SUN is traveling through the sign of ARIES. Aries is that part of us that innately knows the value of independence. It recognizes that being responsible for self is being ‘on track’. Supporting others in taking responsibility for themselves is also the high road. It builds strength and confidence in those we care about.

Co-dependency- becoming involved with others in a way that undermines our authenticity – is the antithesis of ARIES. We all have the sign of Aries somewhere in our charts. It is that part of us that instinctively knows that the act of helping another, without boundaries, is not sacred. When we give beyond the limits of our own energy, we actually do a disservice to the other person, as well as to ourselves.

When we love someone, it can be difficult to watch them go through a painful situation when they have the inner resources to help themselves. It can be tempting to interfere without being asked, to take their responsibility to make it easier for them. It is the ARIES part of us that teaches us that ultimately, each of us must take full responsibility for self.

It is the ARIES part of us that will not allow us to violate our own inner instincts. It recognizes that to support the independence and self-sufficiency of others is a sacred gift. It validates their strength.

DO YOUR OWN THING

When you do something for someone else
It can end up binding you …
When you sacrifice what you really want
For another, it injures you …
There’s no one else you can protect
From what they need for development
And the one you’re really responsible for
Is you …

Just do your own thing
Do it ’cause that’s what’s in you to do
It’s not so hard to do the thing
that brings you joy and makes you sing
Just do your own thing!

Each of us has lessons
That we must go through …
And if you truly love someone
You let them do what they must do …
If you interfere you prolong the time
It will take for them to get it straight in their mind
And the one you’re really responsible for
Is you …

Just do your own thing
Do it ’cause that’s what’s in you to do
It’s not so hard to do the thing
That brings you joy and makes you sing
Just do your own thing!

You don’t know how deep the pain
For another must become
And you don’t know what suffering
They need to take them back home …
You can never, ever know
What another must go through
And the one you’re really responsible for
Is you …

Just do your own thing
Do it ’cause that’s what’s in you to do
It’s not so hard to do the thing
That brings you joy and makes you sing
Just do your own thing!
