The composite chart represents the fusion of energy that two people create when they come together. It is a third being. Like a child, it inherits qualities of both parents, though it has a life all its own and exists independently of either of them. The following interpretations should be regarded as being for the relationship itself, taken as an independent entity, as this relates to the meaning for each individual within it.

Chart Patterns

Funnel, focal planet Uranus

You have the planetary pattern type called the ‘funnel’ shape. All your planets form a group, with the exception of the focal point, one planet or two planets in conjunction. Your energies tend to be channeled through this focus. You will have abilities in the occupied area of the chart, and goals in the direction of the focal point. The focal planet(s) symbolizes how your energies will be expressed, and where you seek to have your needs met or achieve your purpose.

Uranus in the composite chart reveals the area of your shared experience where you will encounter unusual and unexpected circumstances and where the relationship benefits from lack of structure.

Uranus in the Third House (or sign) gives your relationship mental sharpness, with an ability to grasp new concepts quickly. You two are likely to change your focus quite a bit, especially under stress. Education is important to you, and together, you may actively explore new subjects and disciplines with the capacity to become adept at all of them. You may also tend to start more intellectual projects than you finish, or find that you are incomplete in fulfilling long-term commitments. You may each have had similar circumstances in the area of early home life or in your relations with your brothers and sisters. There may be instability there that carries over into your present relationship. Your relations with friends and associates are also likely to vary sporadically. It is likely that you feel very free and open with each other, and feel sense of safety in your relationship that allows you to tell it all like it is. Together, you have the ability to think freely, unhampered by conventional attitudes or public opinion. You have a need in your shared to life to create new and better communication processes and this partnership may trigger that need as well as provide the means to satisfy it.

Composite Uranus in Aquarius (or the eleventh house) brings an eclectic and forward-looking orientation to your shared goals and group affiliations. This is a natural placement for Uranus and brings out the most positive manifestation of this uniquely oriented energy, and your relationship is likely to be idealistic and unconventional. As a partnership, you tend to associate yourselves with friends and groups having as their goal the betterment of society. In a romantic connection, you have a solid basis of friendship, and you can spend a lot of time together without stagnating. Your relationship has high entertainment value and long standing durability based on the excitement of shared ideas. Your challenge may be to find an equally close emotional connection with each other. Because this is the most changeable of planetary energies, your relationship goals and group affiliations will constantly migrate into new patterns. You may also experience some ups and downs with group participation under stress, although you have a tendency to bounce back from any downside fairly quickly. Together you have a strong urge for personal freedom, and love to explore new horizons together. Your highest mission is to make available to others, through collective action, the progressive ideals for social reform that you cultivate as a partnership.

Grand Trine

You have a Grand Trine in your chart. When three or more of your planets form a Grand Trine with each other, you will have an exceptional area of talent represented by the element in the trine, either Fire, Earth, Air or Water (usually these planets are in just one element). You will display a marked self-sufficiency and also will have good success in your endeavors in this area of life. You must also beware, however, of being lazy or complacent.

T-Square, focal planet Saturn

You have a T-Square in your chart. With a this planetary aspect pattern, in which three planets or conjunctions are in square with one another, you have a high degree of motivation and drive. Your energies are most easily and habitually expressed by the energy of the focal point, the middle of the T-Square. You may also compensate for overdoing in the area of life represented by the focal point, by leaning toward the empty pattern element opposite the focal point, seeking to balance your activity. The lesson of this planetary aspect pattern is in learning to use your considerable energy wisely in the pursuit of your true goals. There is great tension represented by the focal planet or planets in your chart, where conflicting parts of your personality attain their focus and peak of energy, and you may observe compulsive behavior in the area of life represented here.

Saturn in the composite chart reveals the area of your shared experience where you will encounter limitations and build long-lasting success through trials of accomplishment.

Saturn in the Eighth House (or sign) symbolizes an intense relationship that evokes a profound emotional experience between you. There may be a blockage, or a deepening of concentration in your feelings when together so that many and complex emotions are generated between you. You will likely feel the undercurrent of powerful feelings in connection with your partner, but these may be only partly available to your conscious awareness without doing some work and digging down to try to understand them better. This relationship tends to trigger and thus help you to understand power-oriented and possessive qualities in each of you. In a romantic relationship, you may find that some important level of intimacy is consistently blocked. This can be frustrating, and this placement is in fact a difficult one for romance. If you learn to trust your partner and open up to the process, this relationship can provide each of you with an opportunity heal fears surrounding the issue of emotional closeness and sexuality. One of the main lessons of this relationship may in fact be to learn to master and bring to consciousness these hidden drives within each of you, transforming this energy into a sustaining healing power for yourselves and those around you.

Composite Saturn in Cancer (or the fourth house) symbolizes a blockage or a deepening and concentration between you regarding your sense of safety and security in your relationship and also your capacity to express feelings. One or both of you may seem to be rigid and unemotional to the other, and this behavior might stem from problems with the parental care and guidance received in your early years, so that these issues are up for healing. You may also feel limitations around the creation and maintenance of any shared space that you might establish. Security is very important to your relationship and may take the form of a joint striving for material rewards. The more that each of you can accept and integrate the personal and intimate world of your own and each other’s feelings, the more you will break through barriers of fear and isolation and experience true intimacy and love with each other. You are also quite likely to have a focus on your home environment. If you share a home or plan to, there will be a strong mutual interest in making it a good one, and also difficulties to overcome in this regard. You may put a tremendous amount of work into this project, but the eventual result creates a powerful bond between you. Another major lesson in this relationship is to more fully and deeply understand and value your partner’s true origins, as different as they may be from your own. This will bring about greater understanding and acceptance between you, and eventually build a sense of security within the relationship.

Important Features

Composite Pluto in Cancer (2° Can 20′) Composite Pluto in the Eighth House

Pluto in the composite chart reveals the area of your shared experience where you will encounter your mutual drive for power and which will be transformative for the relationship.

Pluto in the Eighth House (or sign) gives a relationship with a focus on powerful emotions that arise between you, and on behaviors of dominance and self-reliance. You may have strong desires in the context of this relationship and find that you are single-minded about pursuing them. You seem to feel more deeply when you are together, and you may have an almost psychic awareness of each other’s energy. In a romantic involvement, boundary related issues are likely to come up between you, reflected in passionate sexuality, deep and powerful feelings of intimacy and questioning where one stops and the other begins. You may also exhibit compulsive behavior around sex and emotional closeness, or be forced to contend with a habit of insisting to get your own way. All these issues will likely become transformed in the course of your shared life together. This relationship’s very survival may depend on how deeply you are each are able to concentrate your attention on personal transformation as a result of working through your issues with each other. As a partnership, you may also exhibit a tendency to manipulate others for your own purposes. In order to grow, both of you need to turn away from manipulating others and use your power to regenerate your own lives. You win when you learn to empower each other and enable each other’s self-reliance, and when you realize that you have come together for purposes of healing.

Composite Pluto in Cancer (or the fourth house) correlates to a relationship where the partners have a mutual desire to create a tightly structured reality through which to feel safe and secure. There may in fact be a security compulsion of some kind, based on childhood wounds in this area. You each are likely to have unusually clear insight into your own unconscious motivations, as well as into the emotional depths of your partner, perhaps from having suffered similar wounds in your early family life. In a romantic relationship, this shared desire for security may manifest as an obsession for a home environment that can be completely safe and secure, or controlled. It may also manifest as an intense desire to merge on an emotional and psychological level. There may be a tendency for one of you to express controlling behavior on the home front. As a result of working things out with each other in the course of this relationship you are each likely to transform your understanding of who you really are at the deepest level of your being. It is also possible that other family members, such as parents in particular, may challenge your shared sense of security in some way, so that you need to work out how to make your own nest away from them. These difficulties can be healed through a deeper understanding of what is truly needed on an emotional level. Evolution occurs when each of you begins to accept responsibility for your own issues. When you work to stay rooted in your spiritual awareness even as the impurities of old emotions arise, you make a powerful move away from codependence into self-reliance. And when you can own your own emotional dynamics without blaming the other, you become more and not less emotionally secure within yourself.

Composite Chiron in Pisces (22° Pis 39′) Composite Chiron in the Fourth House

Chiron in the composite chart reveals the area of your shared experience where you will encounter patterns of wounds and deep connection and where eventual healing and empathy will occur.

Chiron in the Fourth House (or sign) indicates a relationship that provides an opportunity to face and heal deeply held wounds with your vital force regarding self-nurturing and taking care of those closest to the relationship. In this relationship, you may find that you two share a strong drive or even a compulsion to center yourselves in home and family, a drive that does not easily find its fulfillment. There may have been painful episodes in connection with early family life. Perhaps you had trouble settling down to enjoy the comfort that a safe and secure home brings to children. As a result, you two may be even more motivated to create this firm base of security in your adult relationship than others for whom it is second nature. You may alternate between overidentifying with your family and under-identifying with them, or you may find yourselves constantly thwarted in finding this important level of security as the relationship unfolds. On a more symbolic level, you may each be painfully challenged finding your own psychological center. This lack can keep your relationship off balance, and you may find that your emotions move in many different directions, as the wind blows. You may long for a more secure and comfortable sense of who you each are, independent of others’ opinions, and long for a psychological place where you can truly be yourselves. The conflict that arises around these issues may be largely unconscious in nature, based on long-buried experiences too painful to recollect and consciously examine. One or both of you may be working through early conflicts with your mother, or other primary parental figures. Once you begin to help each other, to nourish yourselves and to provide your own parenting, rather than depending on the external world to provide comfort and security, your relationship can become a source of inspiration for others as well as yourselves.

Composite Chiron in Pisces (or the Twelfth House) indicates a relationship that provides an opportunity for you both to face and heal deeply held wounds regarding your vital force to be at home in the world of physical manifestation. In this relationship, you may notice places where you feel alienated from rest of mankind, and more at home in a world of fantasy than in what you laughably call “the real world”. Talents may arise that come from beyond this world, and you may discover renewed passion for music, poetry, or spirituality. You may be reminded of painful episodes from early childhood that drove you into a world of your own. You have likely come to be quite at home in your inner world, and your challenge is to take advantage of this relationship to come out with style and dignity, with your inner cosmos intact. Again and again, when you attempt to be a part of it all, just like everyone else, you find it doesn’t quite work. You may work with other people, helping them to be peaceful and comfortable in connecting their own lives to a higher truth, without ever really getting it yourself. Of course one is tempted to blame oneself for this sort of failure to connect. However, if you can examine the deep emotions associated with withdrawal from the world you can begin to operate from a feeling of wholeness that leads you to make your own true way. As you get in touch with the part of yourself that has been carefully hidden away, defended from the pressures of consensus reality, you can come to a sense of peace with your darker, more hidden self. As your relationship matures in this process of integration, you will both find a way to be a part of the world at large, to participate and share in its wonders and its disasters, without giving anything up. This difficult transformation is vital to your emotional health and well being, and makes it possible for you both to eventually reach out to others as well and help them integrate their shadows into similar wholeness.

You may be interested in having children together; certainly they are a great source of pleasure for the two of you. You admire each other for your creative bent, which this relationship may bring out in larger measure than when you operate individually. As a partnership, you may find that you need to get more serious occasionally, since things seem to come your way almost too easily. Together you have a solid basis of self-worth and may only need to ensure that you don’t take the relationship too much for granted.

In a romantic relationship, this is a very good placement and ensures that abiding feelings of love will be present and that whatever disagreements may arise, they will be ameliorated by a solid foundation of mutual admiration between you. You may only have to be careful not to take this relationship for granted. As a partnership you appear charming and gracious, and may be known by others as a cheerful, generous and diplomatic pairing. If you go into business with each other, public relations will be a strong suit of whatever joint venture you decide to tackle. You will generally speaking have much success with financial matters and an easy harmony of interaction that makes for an excellent partnership in whatever form it takes.

Composite Mercury in Aries (18° Ari 59′) Composite Mercury in the Fifth House

Mercury in the composite chart reveals the quality of the communication process in your relationship, and an area of your shared experience where intellectual compatibility is to be found.

With composite Mercury in the Fifth House your relationship has plenty of lively conviviality with easy and relaxed communication around the issues of creative ideas and children or artistic productions. You are bound to have loads of fun together with many shared interests to enliven your connection. In a romantic relationship, you have a strong basis to be friends as well as lovers, enjoying playing together and any form of shared activity. You also communicate well regarding the children in your lives, as this is an important shared interest. You may feel like children yourselves when you get together to spend time in mutual enjoyment. As a partnership, you have an artistic ability to produce poetry or fiction, or to act on stage together, or to engage in other creative endeavors. You may find yourselves better able to play with each other than to focus on your goals, although you at least have the advantage of usually seeing eye to eye on what these are. A little playing in life is definitely a good thing, but it may be important also that you dig in from time to time and get serious about what the two of you are trying to accomplish.

You two tend to communicate in a way that is witty, inventive and quick, and impatient with opposition and delay. Your collective intuition is keen with a heightened sensitivity to sense impressions, either visual or auditory. You may have a tendency to exaggerate, or to argue with each other. This relationship has considerable mental energy, and you jointly have the need to assert yourselves in your thought process and your communication with each other and those around you. You benefit when you take this gift of quickness and learn to bring to it a greater degree of concentration and follow-through. With concentration, your abundant mental energy together becomes a real gift to all you encounter.

Sun, Moon, Rising Sign Features

Scorpio Rising

The composite Rising Sign is the image that this partnership presents to others and characterizes the nature of the relationship.

With Scorpio rising in your composite chart, your relationship is likely to be passionate and deep and somewhat secretive. Scorpio is associated with sexual activity and with the symbolism of death and rebirth, and your relationship may partake of these modalities. As a partnership you may be concerned with issues of death and dying for example. Your ruling planets are Mars and Pluto, and there is always the possibility for conflict between you, which will hopefully lead you to greater self-examination and a look below the surface of your interaction for your true motivations. In a romantic relationship, your emotions tend to run deep. There is no casual interaction between you. The magnetism you generate makes you a very persuasive, even coercive, pair, both with each other and with others that you encounter. Your shared will is strong, and can be turned toward each other, perhaps with overtones of manipulation. Working through these issues is painful, but your pain can lead to important personal transformation for the two of you. You two work well with group dynamics and with the public. You may make shrewd judges of other people’s motives as well as your own. This aspect between Composite Chiron and Ascendant signifies a relationship with a great deal of healing potential. There may be difficulties that come up between you for greater understanding and eventual acceptance and healing, and you will also encounter sympathy from your partner for your own process, enabling you to move forward into wholeness more fully. Chiron is called “the wounded healer” because it represents the archetype of imperfection and loss which when integrated leads to compassion and understanding of your own and others’ suffering. In the past, one or both of you have probably experienced pain and frustration related to your self-concept, or there could have been trauma in your early years concerning parental protection which may have been withdrawn too suddenly or misapplied, or perhaps similar issues that arose with peers. These types of early traumas often lie buried behind walls of denial, and only when they are accepted and brought to conscious awareness can true healing begin to take place. There are long-buried issues that may come up for you with this particular partner where you can make enormous progress as you work through them realistically and honestly. The empathy and the understanding of your own and your partner’s issues that emerge from such a deep relationship will serve you well later in life. You are likely as a partnership to be interested in the helping professions, and may eventually assist others in reaching better levels of acceptance and integration of their own dark places.

Composite Moon in inconjunct (within 0.7 degrees) with Ascendant

The planetary energies do not flow smoothly, one or the other predominates; discrimination must be employed.

This aspect between the Composite Moon and Ascendant signifies a nurturing and protective relationship. As a partnership you are subtle in your actions, rather than direct, and while you are likely to reflect the moods of those around you, you have a sense of a shared emotional commitment that is very strong. You have possibly come together around issues of security and your home and family, for these are important to both of you. Others see the connection between you, since when you are together you show your emotions readily. Whether you find yourselves a romantic relationship or a friendship, you tend to act from an almost instinctual basis, and are truly protective of one another. Your logical abilities as a team are excellent. Together you have your own way of looking at things, and you may inspire each other toward a truly visionary outlook.

Composite Uranus in square (within 3.4 degrees) with Ascendant

The planetary energies conflict; internal and creative tensions bring rich rewards through effort over time.

This aspect between Composite Uranus and Ascendant signifies an eclectic and exciting relationship, but one perhaps also subject to a large degree of variability and even instability. Within this relationship, you have a cosmic connection to a level of intuition far beyond the confines of the physical plane. As a partnership you are original and independent thinkers with active, scientific minds, futuristic in outlook, and you are capable together of bringing new ideas into being. The two of you function in unique ways together, and stimulate each other’s thought process. As members of an unusual and perhaps even eccentric partnership, you are rebellious both with respect to the norms of society and with each other, so that you will undoubtedly have to learn to take the bitter with the sweet. Over time you need to decide what you want to get out of the relationship and adjust expectations to match what is actually available. In a business or friendship connection there will be plenty of good ideas floating around, and you will be constantly amused and challenged by the next horizon of what you are attempting to achieve together. However in a love relationship there will necessarily be some major adjustments that you will have to make. Over time, the ideas that drew you together may still excite you, but if you are looking for stability and homemaking, this relationship is not it. One of you may feel the need to pursue an individual path of growth that is totally independent from the other’s input. If you are willing to try a connection with an extraordinary openness, where each partner is able to get space from the other from time to time, then you are in the right place.

Composite Sun in Taurus (0° Tau 17′ 20″) Composite Sun in the Sixth House

The placement of the composite Sun defines the core identity of your relationship, and the place where it finds its greatest vitality. It gives you a sense of the predominant flavor of the relationship.

With the composite Sun in the Sixth House, your relationship comes with a service orientation. It may be that one of you is dedicated to serving the other, or that you both serve some other interest and take that mission as the most important, more so than exploring your own individuality. In a romantic context, this is not a very positive indicator. You may have a mutual shared goal of service to a cause or to a work situation, beyond your personal relationship, and you must be careful to balance this with each of your own individual needs and desires. If one is clearly the stronger and gives while the other takes, this too can be problematic for balanced growth over time. You and your partner may have come together for the purposes of health, healing, or a sense of duty. A tone of sacrifice and burden may therefore emerge, or one of you may end up holding space so that the other partner has the chance to undergo an important series of transformations. The natural result of your coming together may be that you consciously work out extreme parts within yourselves. In any case there is something beyond the immediate give and take of partnership that you jointly aspire to, and you benefit when you clearly see the dynamics that are operating between you and adjust your expectations accordingly.

With Composite Sun in Taurus, your relationship centers on a strong practical base and a shared fondness for the pleasures of life. You work best together when focused on practical concerns. There is also likely to be a strong healing component to your shared endeavors and together you may have a reputation for loyalty and kindness. You also may find that the time spent together shapes and clarifies your values. In a romantic context, you two tend to crave the comfort of relaxing in the warmth of a secure, enclosed environment. Your ruling planet is Venus, and you likely focus on pleasure and material things Material rewards seem to come easily to you, and you often find yourselves in the middle of the good life without being excessively concerned about it. This relationship may take a while to get started, but once it has gotten its momentum, it tends to move along in a steady and very secure way. Although you two may seem quiet and almost passive from the outside, you possess a strong sense of joint will, and as a duo can be quite stubborn at times. You benefit when you work to keep your thinking flexible. At its best, your partnership provides a practical, purposeful, productive and stabilizing influence for you and those around you.

This may be a large part of the reason that you have come together, and together you have tremendous capacity for regeneration and rebirth. There is a strong force magnetizing your involvement with each other and an inclination to stay absorbed in the relationship as long as it lasts. You may have experienced a fated quality when you first met, a feeling of recognition that you perhaps belong to the same tribe, or come from the same far away place. If this is a romantic relationship, you may find that you use your sexuality to play with and work through power issues. In a business partnership, you tend to drive hard, and can work single-mindedly as a team to pursue joint goals and to easily establish your place in the market. Whatever the basis for your relationship, it benefits you to train your considerable energy on the cultivation of the yin qualities of vulnerability, surrender and cooperation. As you learn how to get out of your own way and to treat each other with kindness, you surrender control while maintaining your powerful focus in a more conscious manner. You respond to each other with an immediate sense of understanding and compassion. Your companion will support you and celebrate you; never forget to check in, and never forget to care. The sense of oneness between you might almost be too magical, fostering a dependency that you would do well to work yourselves out of. This is obviously a great placement for any kind of relationship, fostering a strong sense of caring between you that facilitates other types of commitment. The deep sense of trust that grows out of the emotional connection that you have with each other may well provide the foundation for an enduring and unshakable partnership.

Together, you tend to keep in close touch and enjoy a shared glibness of tongue when conversing. This placement enhances your shared experience of the changing moment rather than the long term. While enjoying the smartness and versatility of your exchanges, you may also need to soften what can be an overly critical approach at times. In a romantic relationship, your ability to express your feelings to each other allows for great flexibility and mutual satisfaction between you. You will also never tire of conversation with each other. Together, you like to express your opinions, and tend to react to situations by thinking, rather than with feeling or direct action. In a community or business setting, this placement brings excellence to networking, mediating, promoting and the general dissemination of information.
