The Astrological Edge for May 2016
Slow and steady will be the mantra for May. Although we will still feel some underlying tension left over from the Uranus-Pluto square, the need for radical change that was associated with that aspect is continues gradually to lift. Pluto is still retrograde, and that can transform restlessness into introspection and self-transformation.
The Sun and four planets in earth signs, harmoniously aspecting Pluto in Capricorn, add a strong note of practicality to the atmosphere and a desire to work toward realistic goals and achieve tangible results. This is a powerful month for undertaking work that can address and heal core personal issues. With retrograde Saturn in orb of a square to Neptune all month, this will be an excellent month for restructuring, letting go of illusions, and stabilizing ourselves. Mercury in Taurus will be retrograde until the 22nd, and that gives us the ability to rethink long-term goals and solidify plans before moving forward with them. Our focus will shift toward building a future that is in practical alignment with our values.
Adding to this strong earth energy is Jupiter in Virgo trining Pluto in Capricorn all month. We will all be encouraged to put our feet firmly on the ground and get in touch with our current reality. The combination of Jupiter’s expansiveness and Pluto’s transformational qualities can help us take our ideas to the next level. While the timing won’t be right to launch anything new, we will have the power to do some “master planning.” Mars will continue to be retrograde in Sagittarius for most of the month. Before it returns to Scorpio on the 27th, we can channel enthusiasm for our next big adventure into researching the necessary action steps.
The Sun will be in Taurus through the 19th, encouraging thoughtfulness and the enjoyment of life’s pleasures. Since prevailing energies are guiding us to slow down, we might as well take the time to appreciate those activities and people that bring us joy. Instead of resisting delays, take advantage of this time to create cozy spaces for gatherings, to enjoy delicious food, or to indulge in peaceful time spent reveling in the beauty of nature.
Though we will still feel some underlying tension from the separating Uranus-Pluto square, with Pluto continuing to be retrograde this month (April 18 to September 25), the impulsive energy from Uranus can be tempered by a desire to get to the heart of matters. The urge to change is likely to take on an investigative nature.
World leaders and organizations may be “under the microscope,” as the public seeks answers to longstanding problems. After Mercury turns direct on the 22nd, it is possible for public unrest to shift from cries of protest to informed dialogues about how to restructure existing systems so that they can benefit the greater good. This month’s reactivation of the Uranus-Pluto square can help authority figures to rethink their positions and recognize those methods that are no longer effective.
The Uranus-Pluto square had been stirring everyone’s desire for personal freedom for more than four years. During that time, many of us were searching for ways to break free of limiting situations. This will be a good month to look within for answers to such questions. It is possible that we have been imprisoning ourselves with thoughts, attitudes, and old behavior patterns and can now . . . . . READ THE FULL COLUMN!
